§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services which benefits related to the relief of family poverty he is planning to promote within the next year by advertising campaigns; and how much he is proposing to devote from the advertising budget for each benefit.
§ Sir K. JosephTwo campaigns next year will cover free milk, free dental and optical treatment, exemption from prescription charges, free school meals and Family Income Supplement, the second campaign being devoted entirely to Family Income Supplement.
Exact amounts for the two campaigns have not yet been settled and will depend on the most effective advertising method aimed to reach families who have a right to the benefits and exemptions; but substantial sums will be spent and the advertising will include national newspapers and will be backed up by direct approach to thousands of workers in local government and in social and other related services and the voluntary organisations.
