HC Deb 30 April 1970 vol 800 c398W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will make a statement on the persistence of a high rate of unemployment over the past two or three years; and what action his Department has taken, or intends taking, to reduce the present unemployment figure.

Mr. William Rodgers:

As my right hon. Friend indicated in his speech on 20th April in the Budget debate, the rate of growth of output over the 12 months ahead should exceed that of our productive potential and on this basis unemployment should fall.
