Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what percentage of the gross national product was accounted for in 1963–64 and 1969–70 by central Government expenditure on the health and welfare services.

Mr. Diamond:

Expenditure by the central Government on the health and welfare services in 1963–64 was equal to 3.4 per cent. of gross national product in that year. The corresponding figure for 1969–70 is estimated at a little over 4 per cent.
