§ Mr. Marksasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated number of retirement pensioners who pay tax on their National Insurance retirement pension.
§ Mr. Taverne:It is estimated that for 1970–71, counting married couples as one, about 1.6 million National Insurance retirement pensioners will have sufficient income from other sources to make them liable to tax; if they had nothing but the National Insurance retirement pension they would have no tax to pay.
