asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money has been spent by central Government on new hospital building in Scotland since the inception of the National Health Service; and how much has been spent since 1964 to the nearest available date.

Mr. Ross:

From 1st April, 1951, to 31st March, 1970, £110 million was spent by regional hospital boards in Scotland from money advanced to them on capital account; of this £71 million was spent between 1st April, 1964, and 31st March, 1970. Comparable figures for the period before 1st April, 1951, are not available.
