HC Deb 29 April 1970 vol 800 c356W
Mr. Arthur Jones

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he intends to take, following the publication of the Report, " Air Pollution and Health", by the Royal College of Physicians, a copy of which is in his possession, to control emissions of sulphurous and other noxious fumes.

Mr. Greenwood:

Since 1960, average low-level concentrations of suphur dioxide in urban areas have fallen by about 33 per cent, and industries registered under the Alkali, etc. Works Regulation Act, 1906, have made valuable progress in the control of various other kinds of emission. These trends are expected to continue. The Clean Air Act, 1968, includes provisions about industrial fumes which I intend to apply in the light of technical advice.
