HC Deb 28 April 1970 vol 800 cc268-9W
56. Mr. George Jeger

asked the Minister of Transport what further discussions he has had with the British Railways Board regarding improved safety installations at unmanned level-crossings; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Murray

The Department is in constant touch with the Railways Board on this matter.

Good progress is being made with the installation of improved safety devices at automatic half-barrier crossings. British Railways have reached agreement with the local occupiers on the improvement of some private crossings, and are in negotiation about others. The Department, in conjunction with the board, is conducting a survey to establish what safety improvements may be required at those private crossings which in practice have a considerable public use.
