asked the Minister of Transport how many trains were derailed in the first quarter of 1970; and what were the comparable figures in the first quarter of each of the previous three years.

The provisional figure for reportable derailments on all railways in Great Britain during the first quarter of 1970 is 93. Comparable figures for the first quarters of 1969, 1968 and 1967, were 116, 99 and 75 respectively.
