§ 64. Mr. Hooleyasked the Minister of Transport what was the aggregate value of subsidies to public transport in each of the economic planning regions of England in 1969–70.
Mr. Bob Brown:I regret that any apportionment of the grants to un-remunerative rail services or the grants towards duty charged on bus fuel and the cost of new buses which together accounted for most of the subsidies paid to public transport in England in 1969 –70, between the planning regions, is not possible with any degree of accuracy, and could not be provided without an excessive amount of work. I am however writing to my hon. Friend today on this matter.

Mr. Bob BrownIn the financial year 1969 –70 Sheffield Corporation Transport and the Sheffield Joint Omnibus Committee received from central Government funds new bus grants amounting to £180,822 and bus fuel grant payments amounting to £389,395. Information about assistance from any other source, for example from local authority funds, is not available.
