§ Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Minister of Transport what sum his Department received in 1969 through the Home Office as a result of fines for parking and other offences; how many individual fines made up this sum; and how much of this money has been devoted to improving off-street parking.
Mr. Bob Brown:During 1969 the sum of £9,895,748 1s. 2d. was received as a result of fines for parking and other offences. It is not possible to estimate how many individual fines made up this sum but provisional figures for 1969 show that fines were imposed in 1,293,864 cases for traffic offences. Of these 155,917 were for parking offences. This does not include fixed penalties for which figures will not be available until later this year. My right hon. Friend has no powers to provide parking facilities and none of the money has been used for this purpose.
