HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 c230W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many applications have been made by the Carlisle City Council for a share of the £15 million which has been set aside for the replacement of old and grossly sub-standard premises; and for which schools they have applied.

Miss Bacon:

The Carlisle local education authority put forward three projects, at an estimated cost of about £201,000, for an allocation from the £15 million available for improvements and replacements in the 1971–72 starts programme. The schools were:

  1. 1.St. Cuthbert's R.C. Voluntary Aided Junior Mixed and Infant School.
  2. 2.Bishop Goodwin C.E. Voluntary Aided Infant School.
  3. 3.Upperby County Junior School.

I have added the first project to the authority's design list for 1970–71 at an estimated cost of about £67,000. The others will be considered for the preliminary list of projects for starts after 1st April, 1972.
