HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 cc245-6W
Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Minister of Transport what was the new capital investment in roads in the Greater London area in the financial year 1968–69; and how it was financed.

Mr. Bob Brown:

Expenditure on the new construction and improvement of roads amounted to £48.3 million. Of this total £5.3 million was central Government spending on trunk roads and £15.8 million central Government specific grants for work on local authority roads. The balance was met from local authority funds, assisted by the non-specific rate support grant.

Mr. O'Halloran

asked the Minister of Transport what was the cost of maintaining the roadways of Greater London in the financial year 1968–69; and how it was financed.

Mr. Bob Brown:

£19.4 million. Of this, £0.6 million was central government expenditure on trunk road maintenance, and the remainder came from local authority funds with general assistance by means of the non-specific rate support grant.
