HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 c247W
Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Minister of Transport what research his Department has conducted in the use of elevated strips in the carriageway as a method of reducing traffic speeds; and what advice he has given to local authorities concerning these strips.

Mr. Bob Brown:

The Department has made several assessments of the usefulness of such devices and we are continuing to study the subject. In general, we consider that they are likely to cause more danger to road users, particularly drivers of two-wheeled vehicles, than they would prevent by reducing speeds. We have issued no general advice to local authorities but would normally discourage their use.
