HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 cc217-8W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the variation in income tax payable as a result of reducing the standard rate by 6d. in the £ sterling in the case of a married man with three children earning £25 per week, a single girl earning £19 per week; and a married man earning £30,000 per year, respectively, after the new tax changes come into effect.

Mr. Taverne:

A reduction of £9 1s. a year (about 3s. 6d. a week), £11 Is. 9d. a year (about 4s. 3d. a week) and £699 12s. 6d. a year, respectively. The calculation in the first case assumes that the children are all under 11.
