HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 c249W
Mr. Thorpe

asked the Prime Minister what are the latest requests which he has received from the Nigerian Prime Minister on the subject of British assistance in respect of famine relief within Nigeria.

The Prime Minister:

I have received no direct requests for food aid from the Federal Military Government of Nigeria. British aid for food relief is given indirectly through international organisations and financial support for voluntary societies. We are, however, in regular contact with the Nigerian authorities over their other rehabilitation requirements towards which we have set aside £5 million.
