asked the Minister of Technology why he did not seek assurances from the Dunlop Company Limited before agreeing to the Dunlop-Pirelli merger, that it will not lead to the closure of plant in this country as the result of the transfer overseas of operations at present carried on in British factories.

Mr. Harold Lever:

I saw no need for such assurances. Dunlop publicly declared that the importance it attached to investment in this country and to exports would not be reduced by the merger.
