asked the Minister of Technology what launching and development aid his Department has provided for the hovercraft now operating cross-Channel services.

asked the Minister of Technology what is the extent of Government aid towards research and development on skirts for hovercraft currently being undertaken by manufacturers and operators of cross-Channel hovercraft.

Mr. Carmichael:

More than half of the effort on the Department's intramural programme is devoted to research and development into skirt systems; a programme to apply the results of this work to the cross-Channel craft is being negotiated with the companies. Launching aid for the SRN-4 was provided under the normal ararngements by the National Research Development Corporation.
