HC Deb 27 April 1970 vol 800 c248W
93. Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for Defence upon what authority was a poster containing the words, "wash your hands of Ulster", displayed on an Army vehicle which preceded a church parade of B Specials to Belfast Cathedral on Sunday, 5th April; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hattersley:

To my knowledge, no such poster has been displayed. A small card, originally bearing the words "wash your hands", to which the words "of Ulster" had been added by chinagraph pencil was fastened to the dashboard inside an Army Land Rover. The soldier concerned has been told that such an act is open to misrepresentation and warned as to his future conduct.
