Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement about the air-miss incident over Epsom on 7th April, 1970 between a Trans World Airlines Boeing 707 and a British Overseas Airways Corporation VCIO.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts:

A report has been received of an incident at 1100 hours G.M.T. on 7th April in the vicinity of the Epsom beacon. The aircraft concerned were a Trans World Airlines Boeing 707 from New York, cleared to fly at 7,000 feet on preliminary approach to Heathrow, and a B.O.A.C. VC10, outbound from Heathrow to Delhi, which had been cleared to climb to 6,000 feet. The T.W.A. pilot manoeuvred his aircraft slightly to avoid the B.O.A.C. aircraft. No one was hurt. The incident is being investigated for consideration by the Air Miss Working Group.
