asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the percentage increase in the charges to those nurses living in at their hospitals; and if he will take steps to stop this erosion of pay increases.

Mr. Ross:

These charges are a matter for the Whitley Council. It has been the practice in the past to raise lodging charges in proportion to the salary increase, but on this occasion the percentage increase is broadly 10 per cent. compared with the recent salary increase of 20 per cent.
