HC Deb 20 April 1970 vol 800 c2W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average price charged by water undertakings in Wales per thousand gallons of water consumed; what is the highest price charged, and by whom; and what is the lowest price charged, and by whom.

Mr. George Thomas:

This information is not readily available.

For metered domestic supplies the average charge for 1970–71 is 2s. 11d. per thousand gallons; the highest charge of 4s. 4d. per thousand gallons is levied by the Central Flintshire Water Board and the lowest charge of 1s. per thousand gallons is levied by the Llwchwr Joint Water Board in the Llandybie Parish of Llandeilo Rural District.

This charge does not necessarily reflect the true cost to consumers since many undertakings have annual deficiencies and these are met by precept upon the general rate funds of constituent authorities.
