Mr. Alison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT figures for public expenditure programmes in the years 1946, 1948 and 1951 to 1969 inclusive, classified in the same categories as in Table 1.4 of Command Paper No. 4234, or for as many such years and categories as the information is available.

Figures for public expenditure, classified by the categories shown in Table 1.4 of Command Paper No. 4234, are available by financial years only from 1959–60. The information at out-turn prices is given in the table below.

Figures for calendar years analysed by slightly different functional categories are given in Table 50 of National Income and Expenditure 1969 and the Treasury analysis of public expenditure on pages 105 to 108 of that publication shows how the classification used in the White Paper relates to that followed in Table 50.
