asked the Minister of Technology if he will give a general direction to the Central Electricity Generating Board to lay power lines underground in those areas of the country where winter weather conditions render overhead lines unsuitable.

Mr. Alan Williams:

The optimum balance has to be struck between security of supplies and costs and this is primarily a matter for the C.E.G.B. at national level and the area boards at regional and local level.
