Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he proposes to take arising from the fact that operating lists in Portsmouth may have to be restricted because of an increasing work load; and whether he will make a statement.

Dr. John Dunwoody:

There is no question of restricting operating lists. Any increase in the rate of treating patients now depends on an increase in medical staff. The regional hospital board has recently sought approval to an additional consultant anaesthetist post and this is being considered.
