HC Deb 20 April 1970 vol 800 cc52-5W
Mr. John Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now make a statement on the future hospital building programme.

Mr. Ross:

The following tables list the major hospital building projects in Scotland to be started from 1970–71 onwards. Table I shows the major schemes which were included in the 1966 Review of the Hospital Plan for Scotland (Cmnd. 2877) and which should start in 1970–71 and subsequently, and Table II lists the schemes which will start after 1971–72. The latter schemes have been divided into four priority bands which are not related to financial or calendar years but denote the order in which schemes are expected to start. This should enable regional boards to undertake preliminary planning for the schemes as and when required. The listing within bands is not in order of priority. It will be possible to move schemes from one band to another if this is felt to be necessary in the light of actual progress on planning and medical and other developments.

The tables include only the major hospital schemes selected by me after consultation with regional boards; they do not deal with the regional boards' own capital programmes for smaller schemes.
