asked the Minister of Technology what estimate has been made of the gap between consumption and production of coal for 1970 and 1971.

Mr. Alan Williams:

This will depend on the growth of mining productivity and the trend of coal demand, but I am advised by the N.C.B. that production in 1970 is likely to be somewhat below consumption and balance will be achieved by drawing on stocks.
