HC Deb 16 April 1970 vol 799 c291W
Mr. Crowder

asked the Minister of Technology how many explosions have occurred following the conversion of domestic gas appliances for use with Natural gas; and how many people have been killed in any such explosions.

Mr. Alan Williams

There have been no fatalities due to such explosions. The Gas Council records show that in districts converted to natural gas explosions which involved serious injury or serious structural damage to property amounted to four in 1968 and 13 in 1969. Of these incidents, two in 1968 and three in 1969 were concerned with domestic appliances. At the time of the debate on 26th February, it was understood that there had been one fatality, but we are now informed that there has been none.—[Vol. 796, cc. 1534–1539.]
