§ Mr. Eadieasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many former mineworkers in the Leven-Methil employment exchange area have taken advantage of facilities for retraining through Government training centres, other courses provided under the Government vocational training schemes, industrial rehabilitation units, or development area training grants schemes, respectively.
§ Mr. Dell42 ex-miners from the LevenMethil area have been accepted for training at Government Training Centres since the closure of the Michael Colliery in September 1967, and 34 have completed their courses. 20 more have been accepted for and 11 have completed courses at Industrial Rehabilitation Units. Under the Development Area Training Grants Scheme eight firms in the area have received grants and 202 men have been trained; it is not known how many of these were ex-miners.
§ Mr. Eadieasked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many men are employed in the mining industry in the Leven-Methil employment exchange area; how many miners are redundant; and what is their age range.

§ Mr. DellAt June 1968 the estimated number of males in employment in coal mining (minimum list heading 101 of the standard industrial classification) in the area covered by the Leven and Methil employment exchange was 800. Estimates for June, 1969 are expected to become available next month.
On 9th March, 1970, 177 men affected by colliery closures were registered as unemployed at Leven and Methil employment exchange, of whom 170 were aged 55 and over.
