HC Deb 14 April 1970 vol 799 cc203-4W
45. Sir G. Nabarro

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer compared with his Budget estimate of £1,101 million revenue from all purchase tax for the year ended 5th April, 1970, how much revenue actually eventuated; how much of such revenue was derived from motor cars; and what was the amount of extra purchase tax he collected on new motor cars in the year stated due to manufacturers' increases in wholesale prices ex-works of such cars.

Mr. Taverne

Receipts of purchase tax in 1969–70 will be published later today in the Financial Statement. Final information as to how much was derived from motor cars is not yet available, but it was estimated at the time of the last Budget that it would be about £210 million. The information requested in the last part of the Question is not available.
