§ Mr. William RodgersOn the basis of data from the United Nations, the gross national product at market prices par head of population in 1968 was $2,050 for the European Economic Community, $1,930 for the European Free Trade Association (including the United Kingdom) and $1,860 for the United Kingdom. But conversion from national currencies to dollars at official exchange rates does not give a good indication of relative levels since it does not accurately reflect differences in the internal purchasing power of currencies.
