HC Deb 14 April 1970 vol 799 c211W
55. Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what representations he has had since January, 1968 about the interpretation of the Building Regulations.

Mr. Freeson

The interpretation of the building regulations is a matter, in the first instance, for the local authority, subject to appeal to the courts. The Minister has certain limited powers of determining questions arising under the regulations on a joint application made to him.

The Department receives a large number of technical inquiries about the regulations, and these are dealt with as fully as possible, having regard to the limitations of the Minister's statutory position.
