§ 55. Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what representations he has had since January, 1968 about the interpretation of the Building Regulations.
§ Mr. FreesonThe interpretation of the building regulations is a matter, in the first instance, for the local authority, subject to appeal to the courts. The Minister has certain limited powers of determining questions arising under the regulations on a joint application made to him.
The Department receives a large number of technical inquiries about the regulations, and these are dealt with as fully as possible, having regard to the limitations of the Minister's statutory position.
