asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what help has been given by Her Majesty's Government to Turkey to assist with relief measures for victims of the recent earthquake disaster.

Seventy large tents, 4,000 blankets and 5 tons of rice were flown to Turkey from Cyprus in three aircraft of the Royal Air Force on 1st and 2nd April. Cargo space on two Royal Air Force Hercules aircraft was made available to the Disasters Emergency Committee to transport 500 tents from the United Kingdom on 2nd April. Cargo space on the two aircraft taking my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State and the Chief of the Defence Staff to Ankara on 5th April was also used to transport urgently needed foodstuffs donated by the Disasters Emergency Committee. Five hundred bottles of blood plasma supplied by the Department of Health were flown to Turkey on 5th April.
