HC Deb 06 April 1970 vol 799 c21W
57. Sir G. de Freitas

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) whether, in view of the fact that many young men in civilian life wear hair considerably longer than was customary 20 years ago, he will modify the regulations concerning the length of hair for servicemen to take account to some degree of this fashion;

(2) what are the regulations concerning the length of hair permitted to serving soldiers.

Mr. Hattersley

Queen's Regulations for the Army require the hair to be kept well cut and trimmed. The other Services have similar regulations. The regulations are interpreted reasonably liberally having particular regard to industrial safety and the general appearance of the force as a whole.
