HC Deb 06 April 1970 vol 799 cc5-6W
43. Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what estimate he has made of the value of British assets seized in Indonesia; and what further progress has been made in negotiating compensation.

Mr. Luard

It is not possible to give a realistic estimate of the value of British assets under claim. It depends on such factors as the method of assessment used and the exchange rate adopted. The Indonesian Government are considering these claims and we have told them that we hope better progress will be made. Our Embassy in Djakarta is in regular contact with the Indonesian authorities.
