HC Deb 06 April 1970 vol 799 c6W
44 and 45. Sir D. Walker-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth affairs (1) what has been the cost to date to public funds of the travel and accommodation of his private secretary and detective when accompanying him on journeys abroad undertaken in his capacity as a member of the Labour Party; and to what Vote they are charged;

(2) under which of the Diplomatic Service Regulations provision is made for the payment out of public funds of the cost of travel and accommodation of his private secretary and detective when accompanying him on journeys abroad undertaken in his capacity as a member of the Labour Party.

Mr. George Thomson

My right hon. Friend remains in charge of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office when on the journeys abroad to which the right hon. and learned Gentleman refers. He is therefore accompanied on these occasions by his private secretary and detective; provision for payment of their expenses out of public funds is covered by Diplomatic Service Regulation No. 29 paragraph 8 (a). To date £87 has been charged to the Foreign and Commonwealth Services Vote.
