asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity whether she will take steps to ensure that operators of businesses in the United Kingdom relying on or benefiting from public funds do not engage in practices which have damaging effects on the interests of workers.

Proper safeguards for employees are an important aim of the Government's policies in general. If the hon. Member has any suggestions for furthering this aim I shall be glad to consider them.
