HC Deb 21 October 1969 vol 788 c215W
Mr. Judd

asked as Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on the adequacy of building facilities at Portsmouth Polytechnic with special reference to the cancellation before its designation as a polytechnic of the Council for National Academic Awards' degree course in biology and other related subjects at the Portsmouth College of Technology.

Mr. Fowler

Inadequacy of accommodation for the total student load of the Biological Sciences Department was one of the factors in last year's decision by the Council for National Academic Awards not to authorise an intake of first year students for the 1968–69 session to the C.N.A.A. degree courses in biology. My predecessor has since approved the provision of additional accommodation for biology and I understand that this contributed to the Council's decision of last May to reapprove the degree courses from September, 1969.
