§ Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has considered the case of Mr. Dirk Nikodem whose application for naturalisation has been deferred on the ground that his period of residence in Great Britain was as a university student; and if he will arrange that his student years of residence in Great Britain shall be added to his other years of residence for the purpose of his naturalisation as a British citizen.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesNaturalisation is not granted to a foreign national while his stay in the United Kingdom is subject to conditions, as Mr. Nikodem's is. But once an applicant is free of conditions, and eligible to apply, the time spent subject to conditions may be taken into account in deciding whether the statutory requirement as to residence in the United Kingdom is satisfied.
