HC Deb 21 October 1969 vol 788 c206W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the growing practice of severe penalties being inflicted upon motorists for nominal parking offences whilst at the same time more serious offences, including multiplicity of serious road traffic offences, are frequently committed, including in some instances the death of victims involved in accidents, where the drivers are let off with nominal fines; and what action he proposes to take to re-adjust the penalties to fit the crimes.

Mr. Bob Brown

The penalty in any particular case is a matter for the court, but we have no evidence that parking offences are being treated more seriously than others.
