HL Deb 15 October 1969 vol 304 c1536WA
Lord CLITHEROE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

(a) How many times aeroplanes passed over the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea during the month of June and the first fourteen days of July, and how many committed a breach of the low-flying regulations; (b) what method is adopted to check whether or not aeroplanes flying over London break the low-flying regulations.

Lord BESWICK

It is estimated that approximately 7, 500 of the aircraft using Heathrow during the period passed over the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Sample monitoring of these aircraft revealed none below the correct height.

A random sample of aircraft on approach is monitored for height by radar over the last 7 miles of descent. There is no check on the heights of aircraft farther out where the glide slope rises over 2, 000 feet.

House adjourned at twenty-four minutes before nine o'clock.
