Q20. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on the recent reorganisation of the Government and Civil Service Departments; to what extent these changes will result in a saving in Ministerial and Civil Service salaries; and what redundancy will result from the closing down of the Department of Economic Affairs.

8–31 August Botswana Mauritius Minister of Overseas Development. Official visits at the invitation of the Botswana and Mauritius Governments. The Minister saw many sides of economic development in both countries and held discussions with their authorities.
19–28 August New Zealand Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Mr. Mulley). At invitation of New Zealand Government and to visit the Auckland International Trade Fair.
28–31 August Australia Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Mr. Mulley). Talks with Australian Ministers.
30 August–18 September Canada The Lord Chancellor To attend Commonwealth Speakers Conference.
4–8 September Gibraltar Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Shepherd). Talks with the Gibraltar Government.
7–18 September Australia Fiji Minister of State, Board of Trade (Mr. Rodgers). Ministerial discussions on South Pacific Civil Aviation matters.
10–12 September India Minister of State, Department of Education and Science (Mrs. Williams). To visit Indian Institute of Technology, to meet Ministers and to speak on education.
13–17 September Canada Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. Official visit at the invitation of the Canadian Government.
18–26 September Seychelles Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Lord Shepherd). Constitutional discussions.
23–24 September British Honduras Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Overseas Development (Mr. Oram). To review progress of the new capital city and other programmes financed by H.M.G.
23–27 September Barbados Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Mr. Whitlock). Commonwealth Finance Ministers' Meeting.

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement I made yesterday. On Ministerial salaries I would refer to my reply earlier today to a Question by the hon. Member for South Angus (Mr. Bruce-Gardyne). As the detailed reorganisation is put into effect, efforts will be made to achieve all possible economies in Civil Service manpower.—[Vol. 788, c. 31–35.]
