Mr. Gresham Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity what has been the percentage price increase from October, 1964, to April, 1969, in the nationalised industries, transport and vehicle, food, durable household goods and clothing and footwear, respectively; and what has been the average price rise in the same period.

The percentage increases between 13th October, 1964, and 22nd April, 1969, as measured by the General Index of Retail Prices, were as follows:

Nationalised industries … 26.1
Transport and vehicles … 21.2
Food … 22.3
Durable household goods … 14.1
Clothing and footwear … 10.6
All items … 22.1

NOTES:

1. The items included under the heading "Nationalised industries" are:

  • Coal.
  • Coke.
  • Gas.
  • Electricity.
  • Road and rail passenger transport.
  • Postal and telephone services.

2. Road and rail passenger transport are also included in "transport and vehicles".
