HC Deb 26 November 1969 vol 792 cc88-9W
63. Mr. Rankin

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the concern among British airline pilots over the increasing number of near misses occurring among passenger and other aircraft under flight control; and what steps he proposes to take to make flying safer for passengers and pilots.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

The National Air Traffic Control Service is in continuous contact with the British Air Line Pilots' Association and other user organisations on all matters affecting aircraft safety. B.A.L.P.A. are also members of the Air Miss Working Group which examines reports of air misses and recommends on remedial action if this is required. Improvements are constantly being made to the N.A.T.C.S. air traffic control systems and procedures in the interests of safety and to meet the continuing increase in air traffic movements.
