HC Deb 11 November 1969 vol 791 cc77-8W
Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is satisfied with the provision being made by local authorities in the Highlands and Islands to provide litter bins and lavatories to meet the needs of tourists; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross

More of these facilities are needed, not only in the Highlands and Islands, but in all the tourist areas of Scotland. I have recently drawn the attention of local authorities to the eligibility of expenditure on litter bins and lavatories for grant under Section 67 of the Countryside (Scotland) Act, 1967. Seven projects for the construction of lavatories in Ross and Cromarty have already been approved, and three in Lewis and four in Inverness-shire are under consideration.
