§ Mr. Elystan MorganThe number of indictable offences known to the police in England and Wales in 1968 in which a firearm was used or presented was 875. Of these, 392 offences involved killing or wounding by shooting; in 396 offences the firearm was presented only as a threat; and in 22 offences it was used for striking the victim. In three offences the firearm misfired; and in 62 offences the firearm was fired without causing injury, but information is not available whether it was fired at a person.
