§ 44. Mr. Frank Allaunasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will make a statement on the effects of the recent reduction of Government lending to local authorities for the purpose of home loans of £65 million for this year on last year's total of £95 million.
§ Mr. GreenwoodThe total effect will not be great on the housing market which is financed to a very large extent by building societies and insurance companies. The reduction in local authority quotas will make it more important than ever for authorities to concentrate on helping people who cannot get a loan from elsewhere, or council tenants moving out to a house of their own.
