HC Deb 04 March 1969 vol 779 c83W
Mr. Ridley

asked the Minister of Power by what percentage it is estimated the price of electricity will increase on the basis of 65,200 megawatt of capacity in 1973–74 compared with a demand of 46,000 megawatts.

Mr. Freeson

The capital charges of modern power stations are broadly offset by the lower operating costs, so that any temporary imbalance in the early 1970's between the Central Electricity Generating Board's generating capacity and demand should not significantly increase costs. In any case over this period a fall in electricity prices in real terms is to be expected.
