HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 c223W
12. Mr. John Lee

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government in view of the increasing pressure for gravel extraction in the Thames Valley, what steps he is taking to ensure that damage to the beauty of the area is minimised.

Mr. Skeffington

The richest deposits of sand and gravel in South East England occur in the Thames Valley but their exploitation is subject to planning control. The Department is arranging meetings between groups of planning authorities and the industry to consider the planning aspects in the light of the rising demand and the important amenity interests.
