January to 31st March, 1970 in view of the increase in the numbers of deer killed during the same period in 1969.

Mr. Loughlin

As I indicated in my answer to the hon. Member on 12th June, it has not yet been possible to establish the cause of the sudden increase in deer casualties in the first three months of this year. There was also a sharp increase in deaths from natural causes over this period. I am continuing to investigate this matter with the object of identifying measures to reduce the mortality rate.
