HC Deb 24 June 1969 vol 785 c258W
Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Postmaster-General how many complaints were received by the Post Office in the most recent annual period for which figures are available regarding letters and packages going astray in the post; and how many of these packages or letters were subsequently traced.

Mr. Stonehouse

There is no record of the number of complaints of loss which prove to be unfounded. During 1968, 94,407 letters and 90,113 parcels reported as lost could not be traced. This is a loss rate of about 16 items per million posted.
